Workshop’s

The humble approach….

Posted on Updated on

Joe begins his Monday morning with renewed motivation and incentive. The book he read at the weekend was all about the successes of email marketing, and he can’t wait to try it himself.

After a whole morning spent of formulating the email content and format, he looks at his work and smiles.

‘I’ts fantastic’, he noted. He hit the send button with high hopes.

The afternoon consists of mainly pressing the send and receive button- desperate for some kind of  response.

After a wasted day (that generated no replies), Joe heads home , miserable that all his hard work had gone to waste.

This was the email he sent:

Dear *Firstname,
My name is Joe Johnson and I am with  North Software Ltd. We are the leading
provider in back office operations software with many clients such as XXX, YYY
and ZZZ.

I am writing to see if you or your company would be interested in a demonstration
of our software. It would be a brief 15-30 minute demonstration that we could do at
your convenience.
Below is a list of testimonials from customers that describe how we have improved
their productivity. You will find more information at our website at
http://www.mycompany.com

I’ll give you a call later in the week to see if we can set up a time for the
demonstration.
Sincerely,
Joe Johnson
Productivity Consultant
North Software Ltd

What did he do wrong?

  • Talked about himself
  • Offered solutions without identifying problems
  • Sent a barrage of information
  • Used an assumptive close
  • Didn’t think about what the prospect wanted
  • Didn’t care?

What should he have said?

Part two tomorrow…………

Free Business Seminar

We say a chain is only as strong as its weakest link, so where is the weakest link in a business? It is my belief that more often than not the weakest link in a business is the people at the top, the business owners or the business leaders.

I do not mean that to sound insulting. It is a fact and when you think about it an inevitable fact. Very often when people choose to open a business that decision is based upon a set of technical skills or abilities. The business owner is a very good baker, accountant, hairdresser or has a specific idea. But growing and leading a successful business depends upon much more than technical expertise.

Vidal Sassoon did not become a global brand by being a better hairdresser, Richard Branson’s success is not based on his ability to pack and post music albums better than he did 30 years ago. Bill Gates did not become so wealthy by spending all of his time coding.

You see whatever our skillset going in, success in business depends upon developing an expertise in the business of business.

Businesses are incredibly complex, at one level, and leading a business successfully and over a long period depends on a set of significant and complex skills; skills which we don’t necessarily have at the beginning but which we need to develop if we want to have a successful and sustainable enterprise.

The other significant irony is that the person least likely to know what skills, attitudes and behaviour we are missing is ourselves.

You see we all know what we know but we don’t know what we don’t know and as my coach says “it is what we don’t know that costs us”.

So a key question is what are you doing to remove the pinch points in your business?

Jim Rohn said “Never wish that life were easier, wish that you were better”. Sound advice for all of us.

Our next free seminar “Your company needs you…..to be better” is on the evening of February 10th. Details can be found on http://www.teammassiveresults.com/event-reader/events/The_2014_step_to_make_YOUR_business_brilliant..html
